Thermostat
Set a temperature that is comfortable in the summer and winter rather than continually regulating up and down. We know how unpredictable the temperature in Mountain Home, Arkansas can get, but changing the temperature often will pull extra power when it starts back up. For example, leave your thermostat on 78 (during the summer) and 68 (during the winter) while away at work or vacation. Your home will be comfortable upon arrival.
Thermostat Batteries
Modern thermostats have batteries for backup. Change the batteries once yearly or immediately when the low battery indicator alerts. A low battery can affect the operation of the unit. I would suggest using a name brand battery; Duracell or Energizer.
Restricting Airflow
It is an easy mistake to block air vents with furniture or other such interferences. When you block air vents in the home with rugs, curtains or furniture, the AC unit must work harder to pull air into the system and push it out again thus, your AC will wear out faster and it will most definitely consume more energy.
Airflow
Change your filter every 30 days at least. Disrupted air flow may also cause humidity issues or a dirty filter could disrupt the entire HVAC system. Dirty filters may also cause your unit’s coils to freeze over. Last, but not least, a dirty filter can be harmful to one’s health; the air you breath in, could be very sensitive to your allergies. Breath easy and change your air filters.
